Student Bio: Belal completed his BS in Civil Engineering and MS in Geotechnical Engineering in 2010 and 2015, respectively. He is currently a PhD candidate in Civil Engineering at the University of Maine. He has been conducting his PhD research under the supervision of Professor Aaron Gallant and Professor Warda Ashraf. His research topic is carbonation of subgrade materials for sustainable ground improvement. Before pursuing his PhD, he worked both in academics and engineering consultancy firms. He was a lecturer of the civil engineering department at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Dhaka-Bangladesh for 4 years. He also worked as a design and resident geotechnical engineer for Maurice Lee & associates and ARUP in Hong Kong for another 3 years. His geotechnical professional experience includes the design and supervision of slope stabilization, ground investigation, foundations, and deep excavation works.
Thesis title: Utilization and storage of carbon dioxide gas via subgrade soil stabilization: laboratory and pseudo-field demonstration
