Student Bio: Belal completed his BS in Civil Engineering and MS in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering in 2010 and 2015, respectively. Currently, he is a PhD candidate in Civil Engineering at the University of Maine. He has been conducting his PhD research under the supervision of Dr. Aaron Gallant and Dr. Warda Ashraf. His PhD dissertation title is “Laboratory study of soil carbonation for subgrade stabilization”. Before pursuing his PhD, he worked both in academics and engineering consultancy firms. He was a lecturer of the civil engineering department at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Dhaka-Bangladesh for 4 years. He also worked as a design and resident geotechnical engineer for engineering consulting firms (Maurice Lee & associates and ARUP) in Hong Kong for 3 years. His geotechnical experience includes design and supervision of slope stabilization, ground investigation, deep foundations, and support of excavation.
